Lakers Sign Ron Harper

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed free agent guard Ron Harper to a two-year contract, for about 4.2 million dollars, it was announced today by Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Jerry West. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released. "We're pleased to add a player of Ron Harper's ability to our team", said West. "He's a good player at both ends of the floor and also, having played for Phil in Chicago, his knowledge of the triangle offense will be a benefit to the other players." R. Harper
Ron Harper Going for A Lay-up The 30 year old, Ron Harper, is a 13-year NBA veteran, including the last five seasons with the Chicago Bulls. Last season he averaged 11.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

"I'm happy to be here and happy to be a part of this great team that is hopefully going to be even greater very soon," said Harper.
Harper was originally drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1986 NBA Draft as the 8th pick overall. He was runner-up in the NBA Rookie of the Year balloting after averaging 22.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. In the 1989-90 season he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers, where he then played through the 1993-94 season before joining the Bulls. He also was a member of three consecutive championship teams with the Bulls (1996, 97, 98).

Harper, 6-foot-6, has career averages of 14.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists.
